President's Message
Dear
parents and coaches,
I wanted to take a second to update
you all as to what has been
happening with the new soccer board.
We held our first board meeting and
have begun the process of filling
vacant positions. Beth Lucas will be
the league's registrar for the
upcoming year and Dawn Torok will be
the concession manager. Thank you to
both of them. Both of these people
have taken on roles that CANNOT be
done alone. I am sure many of you
will be asked to donate an hour of
time here or there. Please if you
can help out. Think of it this way.
The more people who help out means a
smaller amount of time you have to
spend helping out.
The
Board is working on some issues with
players trophies and coaches plagues
from last year.
As far
as trophies, I went to Edco, the
company that made the trophies, and
spoke with Melissa Combs who is
handling the Tamarac Soccer league.
She said that if a parent has found
that a name has been misspelled, the
parent can contact her at (954)
587-0137. If the spelling error was
Edco's mistake, the problem will be
corrected for free. If it was not
Edco's mistake it will cost about
$4.00 if you drop the trophy off and
pick it up and a little more if you
want them to mail it back to you.
As for
the coaches plagues, I know there
are few coaches and sponsors that
have not been given their plague.
There were some not picked up at
closing ceremony that I saw on the
table. I will get those from the
previous board when I take
possession of the corporate papers,
etc. and we will make sure those
plagues are distributed. I also know
there were some issues with some
plagues having the wrong photos. Our
secretary, will be reaching out to
TSS to see how we can get these
problems corrected as well.
The
board is also looking at some
options for Tamarac to join a parent
league much like baseball has Little
League. This will allow us to
provide all of our coaches, old or
new, with some invaluable training
concerning player development,
injury prevention and/or treatment,
practice layout, drills, etc. All of
this would be designed so that the
training will be age specific (U6
coaches get U-6 training. U-11
coaches get U-11 training). One of
the main reasons we are looking into
this is so we can provide all of you
who may be interested in coaching
your child's team, some education
and ideas that will allow you to
make practices fun and educational
and so your team will be as good as
it can be at game time. There will
be more information coming in the
future so if you have ever thought
about coaching, now is the time to
prepare yourself.
Speaking
of parents getting involved. I want
to make it very clear that this
league is NOT my league or the
Board's league. It is OUR league.
All of us can help to make or break
this league. A little bit of time
can go along way to improving our
league. With that in mind I would
like to ask each of you to visit a
website I found,
www.responsiblesports.com. There
is a section for coaches and a
section for parents to read. This
site is right in line with what we
as a board envision this league will
become. It covers areas regarding
sportsmanship from the players,
parents and coaches and it provides
ways to make the soccer experience
for our children about having fun,
not just winning. After reading your
section there is a short 10 question
quiz that you are asked to take and
I encourage you to do so. Once you
pass this quiz you are given a
certificate. You will be asked if
you want to register the certificate
on the website.....and please DO
register it. Liberty Mutual
Insurance will give a $2500.00 grant
to the 10 leagues that have the most
people register their certificate.
So you
see, for a few minutes of your time,
you might just be the one person who
puts this league in a position to
earn this $2500.00 grant. And even
if that doesn't happen, the very
least you have done is obtain some
useful tips and ideas on how to make
not just your child's experience,
but yours as well, a better one.
Thanks
for your time and we will keep you
updated as things progress.
